In situations such as difficulty breathing, severe trauma, poisoning, seizures, inability to urinate, or sudden changes in consciousness, every minute matters. Çeliktepe Veterinary Clinic operates daily from 09:30 AM to 10:00 PM; outside of these hours, you can reach out to our hotline for emergency support and proper guidance. This does not mean that the clinic is open 24 hours.
What symptoms are emergency situations?
- Open-mouth breathing, cyanosis, or marked difficulty breathing
- Fainting, seizures, severe loss of balance
- Traffic accidents, falls from heights, bites, or severe bleeding
- Contact with toxic substances, human medications, or toxic plants
- Sudden abdominal swelling, severe pain, or persistent vomiting
- Inability to urinate, especially in male cats
- Difficulty in giving birth, rapid deterioration in the offspring
- Birds showing lethargy at the bottom of the cage, puffing up, and difficulty breathing
Approach to critically ill patients
Upon admission, the airway, breathing, and circulation are assessed first. If necessary, oxygen, intravenous lines, fluid support, temperature control, bleeding management, and pain control are applied. Concurrently or afterward, blood tests, digital X-rays, ultrasonography, and rapid tests are utilized.
Intensive monitoring and hospitalization
Critical patients' body temperature, breathing, pulse, oxygenation, urine output, and treatment response are regularly monitored. Each patient's needs are different; the decision to admit is made based on examination and risk level.
What should be done before coming to the clinic?
- Call in advance to inform us of the species, weight, incident, and symptoms.
- Transport the injured patient on a flat and secure surface.
- If there has been poisoning, bring the packaging or product name.
- Do not put your hand or any objects in the mouth during a seizure.
- Do not give medications, milk, oil, or food without a veterinarian's advice.
- Do not attempt to induce vomiting and do not force-feed a patient with altered consciousness.

Is an appointment required for emergency cases?
No appointment is needed if there is suspicion of life-threatening risk. Please call us while on your way if possible to allow us to prepare.
Should I induce vomiting at home in cases of poisoning?
No. Some substances can cause more damage to the esophagus and lungs when coming back up. Identify the name of the substance and seek veterinary assistance promptly.
